Avoiding Dog Aggression
There are several types of aggression in dog behavior. Aggression in dogs is a serious behavior problem for some dog owners. Aggression includes any behavior that is meant to intimidate or harm another animal or person.  Snarling, snapping, barking and growling are all examples of aggression.  There are several types of aggression in dog behavior.  Dominance aggression is motivated by challenge of social status. Fear aggression occurs when a dog feels he is threatened or in danger.  When a dog displays aggressiveness to protect their pack and resources, it is territorial aggression. Marked variability exists in aggressive behavior from dog to dog.  Some dogs tend to respond strongly with little stimuli while others may display very little aggression when subjected to all kinds of threatening situations. The individual tolerance level prompting aggression is dictated by genetics and environment. Raising this tolerance is accomplished using behavior modification techniques. The potential for change depends on the dog’s gender, age, breed and temperament as well as the specific behavior modification techniques employed.
