Excessive Barking in Dogs

Excessive barking is continuous barking to get attention or barking for no reason. In other words what we would call nuisance barking.

It is not barking because someone comes to your door or the dog sees someone or something pass by your house. In that case most people want their dog to let them know someone or something has come into their territory. Dogs will also bark due to Separation Anxiety which is a situation that requires professional help to deal with.

We don’t want to stop our dog from barking when there is a good reason, but just to stop dogs from barking excessively or to stop the unnecessary or annoyance barking.

There are two methods we use to stop excessive barking depending on the dog’s temperament.

1.
The positive reinforcement approach, and
2. The direct command approach.
