Recommended Toys

  • All dogs should be supervised, at least initially, when given chew toys! If dog begins to break or tear chew things apart, discard them.
  • Kong – Should be large and heavy enough so dog cannot swallow or chew it up. Do Not put peanut butter inside the Kong. There have been cases of dogs biting off the small end and swallowing it whole to get to the peanut butter.  Small treats or dog food that can roll out are ok.
  • Rope or Stuffed Toys are ourtoys that we throw for our dog to fetch and then we put them away when we are finished. Dogs should not be left alone to play with or chew them. Discard as soon as dog begins to tear or fray them. (Strings have been known to get twisted and lodged inside dog’s intestines – requires surgery.)
  • Dehydrated Bones make sure large dogs do not crack them. If they do, discard them and get a large heavy duty nylon bone for them to chew (chicken and turkey flavors). If your dog chews them without trying to crack them you can swipe them inside with peanut butter or Cheese Whiz once they are cleaned off. (Caution: Some large dogs will chew so hard they loosen or can break their teeth.)
  • Healthy ChewsRaw carrots, broccoli (small amounts), & raw green beans make good chews and have vitamins and fiber in them. Check the Toxic Foods list before using other veggies or fruit chews
  • Avoid Latex or light weight small toys.

Great Dog Training’s “Dog Behavior Solutions” ™ video addresses fourteen of the most common dog and puppy behavior problems and guides you through your dog’s training with “how to” step by step instructions and demonstrations using real dogs. Each behavior is covered in a self contained chapter allowing for easy review. At the end of the chapter, each of the  main points are highlighted and summarized.

The video is presented by veteran dog behaviorists Walt and Beth Kelly, who have more than 55 years of combined training and behavioral experience, and is a comprehensive guide to understanding the most common dog behaviors and correcting the unwanted dog behaviors. It provides humane ways to discourage unwanted behaviors and promote those that are desired. The techniques employed are proven by experience gained through training thousands of dogs and dog owners over the past 25 to 30 years. Learn more about the Kellys.
